Following on her Interior Architecture degree with university studies in Jewellery Design has seen Melissa Cameron evolve into an artist whose work is already making people take note.
Meticulous, clean-cut and very organic forms emerge from her workshop in the Dryandra Sessilis series - a range of work inspired by the beauty of the Australian bush an in particular the moment a native flower begins to burst into life.
The plant after which this range is named grows in W.A.'s South West as well as the Kings Park Botanic gardens. Each Silver petal is hand-cut, and then drilled with 52 holes before Melissa adds the spirals of copper wire that represent the emerging flowers.
In 2007 Melissa will be undertaking a two year Masters course at Monash University in Melbourne, furthering her jewellery skills and no doubt creating work inspired by the other lower corner of the country.
