In the 21st Century it is becoming more and more important to find new uses for old things, and we're delighted that so many of our artists embrace this need while creating such beautiful work. A new creative recycler is Queenslander Mark Vaarwerk.
His eye-catching and highly tactile jewellery combines Sterling Silver, Fine Silver and Stainless Steel with plastic shopping bags threaded into necklaces, or milk and juice bottles fused into artistic shapes.
By combining simple throwaway objects with precious metals, Mark aims to highlight the different ways we perceive such materials, as well as use them.
